2023 looks set to be another record-breaking year for ransomware. In the first half of the year our data found that publicized attacks represented a 49% increase over the first six months of 2022. But it’s important to remember that not every ransomware attack is made public.

A more disturbing figure is the number of undisclosed ransomware attacks of 2023, a massive 1,815 in the first six months of this year and equal numbers in the second half of the year. 2023 will be the first year with more than 4,000 ransomware victims posted on leak sites (2,670 in 2022). The major player is Clop Ransomware group that exploited MoveIT vulnerability and created havoc across the world. By taking these figures into account can we paint a more realistic picture of the real ransomware landscape.
