The Vice Society ransomware gang has claimed responsibility for a cyber attack against Vesuvius and has published the files that it stole on the dark web

Vice Society included a confidentiality notice alongside the link through which the stolen files can be downloaded:

This leak, contains many confidential files which may also be privileged or otherwise protected by work product immunity or other legal rules. Any unauthorized review, disclosure, copying, distribution or use of this information is strictly prohibited.

The Company accepts no liability for the content of this leak or for the consequences of any actions taken on the basis of the information it contains. “Vice Society”

The publication suggests that negotiations between Vesuvius and its attackers have not gone in the direction Vice Society would desire and that it is unlikely to receive a ransom from the British steel supplier.

In another incident, the Play Ransomware group claiming responsibility for a ransomware attack on Oakland in February has published confidential data, The group claims the leak contains 10 gigabytes of compressed data.

The city of Oakland declined to provide comment to SFGATE about the attack, instead referring back to its statement published earlier Friday. The alleged attackers have come out to claim the cyberattack and detail the extent of their purported conquest.

The group obtained access to private and personal confidential data, financial, gov and etc. IDs, passports, employee full info.

It is unclear what the city will negotiate with or pay the group. The city also did not specify what measures it would take to assist individuals who may be affected by the attack.

The group apparently did not leak Antwerp’s data in December, despite allegedly possessing more than 500 gigabytes of information.
