
A former Canadian government employee Sebastien Vachon-Desjardins, 35, from Quebec was sentenced to prison in the US for his role in NetWalker ransomware attacks.
NetWalker was being offered as a ransomware-as-a-service, spotted in 2019. During the Covid-19 pandemic, NetWalker ransomware operators specifically targeted the healthcare sector.

Vachon-Desjardins, extradited to the United States in March 2022, for involving in NetWalker ransomware attacks. Authorities seized 719 Bitcoin and $790,000.
Vachon-Desjardins was sentenced to 20 years in prison and ordered to forfeit $21.5 million. Restitution will also be ordered, at a later date.
