Synnovis Ransomware attack leads to healthcare disruption in London


Hospitals (Guy’s and St Thomas’, King’s College Hospital)in London have been forced to cancel operations and divert emergency patients following a cyber-attack on a critical supplier.

Due to a ransomware attack on Synnovis – a third-party provider of pathology services, including blood tests, swabs, and bowel tests for the affected hospitals.

The incident hal NHS Foundation Trusts and primary care services in South East London. This has resulted in a major impact on the delivery of services, such as blood transfusions and test results.

A critical incident has been declared by Guy’s and St Thomas’ and King’s College Hospital, and staff have been told to prioritize urgent and emergency test results.

NHS England in a statement confirmed that the ransomware attack on Synnovis took place on Monday, June 3 and the incident is having a significant impact on the delivery of services at Guy’s and St Thomas’, King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts and primary care services in south east London.

At present, Synnovis has yet to provide details on the attack, such as the malware family that infected its systems and if it has suffered a data breach. But some sources say the RaaS group Qilin is responsible for the attack.
