The U.S. CISA has launched a new security hub that organizations can use to discover free public and private sector resources to strengthen their cybersecurity.

The Free Cybersecurity Services and Tools web site is intended to be a clearing house for entities to learn about services and tools offered by CISA, the open-source community and the public and private sector  including those already participating in the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative (JCDC) that was established last year.

Many organizations, both public and private, are target rich and resource poor. The resources on this list will help such organizations improve their security posture, which is particularly critical in the current heightened threat environment. This initial catalog will grow and mature and include additional free tools from other partners.

The new catalog is meant to align with a recent CISA advisory that detailed the various steps organizations could take to boost their defense against malicious actors.

Goal of this initiative

  • Reducing the likelihood of a damaging cyber incident
  • Detecting malicious activity quickly
  • Responding effectively to confirmed incidents; and
  • Maximizing resilience.

The cyber wing of the Homeland Security Department has created one-stop hubs for network defenders before. It recently launched the “Shields Up” web site that recommended specific actions federal agencies, companies and other critical organizations should take to be prepared for potential cyberattacks amid imminent Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Last year CISA helped create a “Stop Ransomware” website aimed at helping private and public entities test and improve their cybersecurity amid an epidemic of ransomware attacks.
