QNAP Systems, Taiwan-based NAS and NVR solutions manufacturer said that it is extending the security update window for some devices that have reached end-of-life (EOL) status. In general, it provides security updates for four years after a product has reached EOL status.

This is due to the fact that , the product performance will get degraded, and memory fluctuates . A overall of the whole system has to be performed to continue like replacing it with a newer technology products.

Due to evolving security threats targeting QNAP models, the NAS manufacturer has decided to extend until October 2022 the security updates for some models that have reached EOL, so that users have more time to upgrade devices.

The extended end date of security updates applies to 64-bit models and ARM models that support NAS OS versions QTS 4.2.6, 4.3.3, 4.3.6, and 4.4.1.The support for EOL models will be limited to high or critical security updates until the end of Technical Support and Security Updates date.

The company also recommends that users do not connect EOL devices to the Internet, as this should help protect their data from security threats. Many malicious attacks have targeted NAS devices in the past years, and QNAP too has issued numerous warnings, telling users to secure their devices against growing attacks
